Rainy Sunday

Rainy sunday morning waiting for the U-Bahn. I decided it would be a good idea to wear sandals today (the sun was shining when I woke up and I was in denial that it really truly is the middle of November). Serious mistake. The rain was looking suspiciously like snow.
Took this one on my phone. Not too shabby.

German structural engineering.... showoffs.
This tower is in this crazy park to the north of the city. I did climb it. It is so well engineered, with only the necessary structure that the whole thing shakes. Feels a bit like it is about to collaps underneath you. Brilliant though. Really truly beautiful.
Sunday Ride

Photos from today's ride. The first two are on the route that I take into the city, and to work when the weather is nice. The tower is Stuttgart's landmark TV tower. The last is a shot of Heumaden from the U-Bahn station.
Really isn't too much to do on a sunday in Stuttgart, basically everything is closed. But, the bike paths are packed with bikers and runners and such. I have no idea what people are going to do when it gets really cold. Today was pushing it. I think the great mild fall weather we have been enjoying for the past couple of weeks is almost over. But the city is still green, the leaves are really just starting to fall. It was a beautiful day to be outside.

... for my grandpa. We aren't German, are we? :)

The Baumhaus... or treehouse. My new apartment. Feels a bit like camping sometimes. Oh yeah, and the actual view from my window.
Vinyards
Also Stuttgart, this one much closer to where I live which is outside the city about a half hour. I can see this place (although not this view) from my bedroom window. Took this about a month ago during the harvest on one of my weekend attempts to get rediculously lost.
City Center
.... already realizing that I have no good pictures of Stuttgart. But I guess this is a start. This is the "market square", heart of the old city. It is the most traditional looking place in the whole city. On Saturday mornings it hosts a beautiful flower market. The church in the background is the city church of Stuttgart, by law no building can be built higher than its tower. Curiously, it is extremely modern inside with a triangulated glass ceiling. The big class clube is just around the corner from the old square and houses Stuttgart's new modern art museum. This old and new mix is typical for Stuttgart, as 80% of it was leveled during WWII. So, there is a lot of cool modern architecture around and mixed in with the old stuff.
So, I am starting this log for several resons, first of which being I keep getting comments from people who want to hear and see more about where and how I am living these days. The second, is to encourage myself to take more pictures, which I know I will seriously regret otherwise. So, here goes nothing.
